Thoughts for Samhain

Leaves are taking up a lot of space in my mind these days.

Every morning, I see more leaves falling off the maple tree in my backyard onto the ground below. Whether it’s taking pictures as the leaves change color, or remembering to rake them up for garden mulch, they might be on your mind, too!

Trees are amazing organisms. Every spring they grow leaves so that they can convert sunlight to food and store it. In late summer, when they realize the sunlight is starting to wane, that stored food is moved from the leaves into the branches. That’s what makes the leaves change, and fall to the ground.

You might be feeling the need to get rid of things yourself! The change of the seasons is a great time to clean out spaces to make way for something new. It’s a time when we might start to think about making our spaces cozy for the dark months. You could clean the windows to let in as much sunlight as possible and replace burned out lightbulbs. It might be time to add a quilt to your bed, and stock up on hot chocolate and tea.

Hope you’re finding ways to stay cozy this season!
